The bundle market is getting more competitive by the week, with Tiscali, Sky, Virgin and BT all vying to get your bundled business.

The recent rebranding of NTL Telewest as Virgin Media, and Tiscali's launch of a new low-cost internet TV package deal has only added fire to the flames of this already heated market.

And the great news for Northern Ireland consumers is that these fantastic deals are available pretty much province-wide.

Virgin Media and Tiscali are now competing with Sky and BT in this fast emerging bundles market, where the consumer benfits from having all their home entertainment and communication services, including broadband TV and a home-phone package. From the providers point of view, apart from significant cost saving opportunities deriving from the technical blurring of lines between these services, there is huge synergies to be gained in cross selling the different services to the single satisfied customer.

Virgin Media would perhaps claim to be the first to include the mobile phone service in the mix with a 4-for-£40 bundle, although the mobile phone companies have not been shy about closing in on the lucrative entertainment and communication market from their end. Orange for example, offers free broadband to any mobile consumer who takes out a contract worth over £30/month.

With the pace of change in this marketplace, it really is worth keeping an eye on the ball for the latest deals (which probably explains why the mobile companies have started a push towards the 18month contract - to milk the most out of the consumer who is still tied in after 12 months, when the landscape will have changed so much.

Two trends are revolutionizing the way that Northern Ireland consumers will buy broadband, voice and other services.

One is bundling - a single operator combining voice, data, video and increasingly, mobile, services under one brand and bill, usually at a reduced total cost for the user.

The second trend is to offer the basic broadband link for free - when purchased with a certain level of usage of other services such as mobile minutes or IP video--changing the economies of broadband and setting off a domino reaction among all Europe's major telcos.

With the broadband market landscape changing so rapidly, it becomes increasingly difficult to build comparisons tools which can keep up to pace.
