Mobile Wireless Broadband Connections
If you want wireless access that isn't limited to wifi hotspots then look into connecting via a mobile phone or a special data card. The basic requirement when using a phone is a data-compatible handset, ideally one with a fast connection technology such as GPRS or 3G. Ask in any phone shop to get the full lowdown. You will also need some way to connect the phone to the computer.
Bluetooth
A common option is to use Bluetooth, which is wireless communications technology similar to WiFi, but with a much smaller scale. Think of your Bluetooth devices as a 'Personal Area Network' (PAN). Bluetooth technology is built into most modern laptops, PDA's and Tablet PC's. For older laptops, a USB Bluetooth 'dongle' can be purchased for less than £15.
PC Datacard
An Even neater solution is to get a PC Card with a fast data-compatible phone built-in, like the nokia D211. Many mobile-phone operators now offer such a product and tarrifs, though still relatively high, are falling.
